Look around you, around your house, and around your work.  What do you see?  Stuff - and probably, lots of it.  Have you ever looked at your possessions to see where they’re made or manufactured?  It doesn't matter if it's an internationally recognized brand or an up-and-coming label because it is most likely imported.

In 2009 worldwide imports into the United States totaled nearly $2 trillion USD, a large percentage of that came from China which amounted to more than $365 billion USD.

While China has become the second largest importer to the U.S., the majority of products are from the electronics and toy industries.  It is worth noting, however, that clothing, household goods, and even food products made in China have proliferated on the shelves of our stores and in our homes.

In our consumerist society red objects can be irresistible stimulants.  The color of love and a symbol of happiness in many Asian cultures, it is also well-known that the color red is associated with communist countries...like China.

Published

Fennel, a photo from her series emulating master photographer Imogen Cunningham won a merit award and is featured in the September 2009 edition of Creative Quarterly Journal, Issue 16.  Working in her home studio, Rosella strived to capture the essence of this founding member of Group f64 by emulating Cunningham’s botanicals, fruits, and vegetables.  CQ Journal is available online and at Borders Bookstore in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.

Riding the F-Line is a short documentary about the passengers aboard the vintage streetcars on Market Street in San Francisco.  This body of work examines how the journey feels lonesome as people seem disconnected, despite the bustling city life.  A short video documentary accompanies this collection.
